Beryslav district Beryslav district is located in the central right bank part of Kherson region. It is bounded by Novovorontsovka district in the east, by Velyka Lepetykha, Hornostayivka and Kakhovka districts in the east, by the town of Nova Kakhovka, Tsyurupynsk and Bilozerka districts in the south, by Snihurivka district of Mykolayiv region in the west and by Velykooleksandrivka district of Kherson region in the north-west. The history of the region is rather interesting. 300 different monuments are declarative of this. They include Svyat-Ovvedenska wooden church in Beryslav, preserved from the Cossacks' times of the XVIII century, remains of the Kamyanska Sich in the village of Respublikanets, a commemorative mark in honor of the 500th anniversary of the first records about Cossacks on the island of Tyahyn, Hryhoriye-Bizyukiv Abbey in the village of Chervonyi Mayak, referring to the XVIII century as well, and many other. The capital of the West Goths' Kingdom Danparstadt was located in the territory of the present Beryslav in the III–IV centuries of our era, the residence of the Khan of Golden Horde Tokhtamysh Dohahe-chit — at the end of the XIV century. At the end of the XV century Turks built the fortress Hazi-Kermen, later it was renamed into Kyzy-Kermen. The present Beryslav was founded on the ruins of this former fortification in 1784. Agrarian and industrial sectors represent the economic visage of the district and its center Beryslav. The Joint-Stock Society «Beryslavskyi Mashynobudivnyi Zavod» («Beryslav Engineering Plant») can be distinguished among other enterprises as to its capacities. It produces component products and spare parts to railway, vessel and automotive-tractor diesels, consumer goods. Processing sector is represented by 9 enterprises. They include famous Joint-Stock Societies «Knyazya Trubetskogo» («Prince Trubetskoy»), «Kamyanske», «Beryslavskyi syrzavod» («Beryslav Cheese Factory») and other. Their products are well-known and are in great demand not only in Ukraine but also far abroad. Bilozerka district Bilozerka district is located in the west-south part of the Kherson region. It is divided into two parts — the southern and the northern — by the regional center. It is washed by the Dnieper-Bug Liman and the Dnieper in the south and east, by the Inhulets, which debouches into the Dnieper right there, in the north-east. In the west extends the steppe, which melts into Mykolayiv vasti-tudes. An advantageous geographical location gives it a convenient issue not only to the regional centers Mykolayiv, Odessa and other regional centers of Ukraine, but to foreign countries as well, by means of water transport and by land. Numerous tribes, which had left here bounteous and memorable traces, passed through the district's territory many a time. More than 20 sites of ancient settlements, villages, graves, located along the right bank of the Dnieper, remind today about those days. They attract attention of history lovers, tourists and ordinary travelers. Courageous seafarers of the Kyiv Princes and daredevils of the hetman Petro Sahaydachnyi made water tracks near these banks. The main sector of the district is agriculture. Black soils and dark-chestnut soils, which provide high harvests of whole grain, vegetable and other crops, prevail here. Grape-growing and vinification are becoming a leading sector. The agricultural company «Bilozerskyi» has become enactor in this sphere. Its products are well-known, it is awarded diplomas and brevets at different exhibitions. The regional program of near-liman grape-growing development is acting in the district. Processing industry, especially processing of tomatoes, which are celebrated not only in Ukraine, but abroad as well, is getting great priority status. Wonderful people, who can both work hard and rest cheerfully, create this variety. «Chornobayivski Zori» («Stars of Chornobayivka»), a festival of national choral art, becomes more and more popular. In general it makes the district peculiar among the other districts of the Kherson Territory. Velyka Lepetykha district This district is located in the northern part of Kherson region. It borders on Verkhniy Rohachyk district in the north and northeast, on Nyzhni Sirohozy district in the east, on Hornostayivka district in the south, on Novovorontsovka district in the west along the Dnieper riverbed. Numerous tribes, which left memorable traces on the district's territory, passed through it. The Polovtsians' stone woman (a stone idol), erected in the center of Velyka Lepetykha village, is declarative of those times. Detachments of hetmans Petro Sahaydachnyi, Ivan Sirko and other famous Cossacks' warriors sailed past these beautiful places. Nowadays these and other monuments are sacredly protected in the district. They attract interest those, who like traveling, lovers of antiquity and modern history. The district has all necessary conditions for a good rest and fishing on the bank of the Kakhovka Water Storage. Agricultural production constitutes economic basis of the district. Winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower give good yields on Velyka Lepetykha land. Vegetable-growing is well-developed here, too. Development of seed breeding is a priority direction in vegetable-growing sector, as well as perfection of breeding in live-stock farming. With the aim of improvement of pigs' breed qualities close relationships have been already established with Polish partners, and such cooperation is giving positive results. The Velyka Lepetykha elevator is a leading enterprise in the district. Having almost 10 thousand hectares of leased land, it achieves high results under any weather conditions. The enterprise, as well as the whole district, invites any investors to cooperation. Velyka Oleksandrivka district It is located in the upper western part of the right-bank Kherson region. It is bounded by Vysokopillya and Novovorontsovka districts in the north, by Beryslav district of Kherson region in the south and east, by Bereznehuvate and Snihurivka districts of Mykolayiv region in the west. The region is characterized by hilly terrain; it is rather attractive in any time of a year. Many historic signs, evidencing its turbulent past, can be found in its territory and are interesting for lovers of history and area study. Agricultural production is the most important sector of the district. The local soil is kindly for winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower; cattle-breading is developed as well. The largest in the south of Ukraine Bilokrynytskyi Cereal Integrated Plant is located here. Advantageous location near the railway junction, connecting Kherson and Kyiv, gives it an opportunity to cooperate closely with all of its partners in any part of Ukraine and abroad. Further development of grain farming, improvement of its structure, introduction of the newest high-yielding and high-quality varieties and technologies, establishment of favorable conditions for all comers to have a good rest there are planned in prospect. Verkhniy Rohachyk district This district is located in the outer northern-eastern part of Kherson region. It borders on Kamyansko-Dniprovskyi district of Zaporizhya region in the north and east, on Nyzhni Sirohozy and Velyka Lepetykha districts in the south and south-west, on Novovorontsovka district of Kherson region in the west along the Dnieper riverbed. The district belongs to the territories, where different tribes rolled through, leaving memorable traces. Numerous monuments are demonstrative of those events. The Cossacks and Tchumaks' overland routes and waterways by the Dnieper intersected here. The Cossacks' patrols brought both good and bad news. Modern district's descendants hold to the traditions of the previous generations. They renovate the vernacular arts, which are in great demand with population, as well as traditions and crafts. One can have opportunities for educative activity and good rest here. The rest camp near the Rohachyk Bay of the Kakhovka Water Storage is a real oasis for those pastimes. Agricultural production is a basic sector of the district's economy. The district is celebrated for yields of winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower and vegetable crops. Advancement of grain farming, introduction of high-yielding and high-quality varieties and technologies will be priority development directions. A lot of attention will be paid to development of cattle-breeding sector.
Vysokopillya district
It is located in the northern part of Kherson region in a basin of
the Inhulets, a tributary of the Dnieper river. It is bounded by Shyrokivskyi
district of Dnipropetrovsk region in the north, by Novovorontsovka and Velykooleksandrivka
districts of Kherson region in the east and south, by Bereznehuvate district
of Mykolayiv region in the west.
The districts' territory was crossed by different tribes. In the later periods
proximity to the Cossacks' outlaws (runaway Cossacks in Muscovite Russia)
influenced life style of the local population. The Cossacks' winter camps
were their centers. Vysokopillya was founded as a settlement of German colonists
Kranau.
Agricultural manufacture constitutes a basis of the district's economy. The
district has advantageous conditions for growing of winter wheat, barley,
corn, sunflower and vegetables.
The Vysokopillya Food Flavoring Factory deals with processing of local raw
materials.
In the perspective the district's activity will be aimed at perfection of
the sown area structure, taking into account modern demand for agricultural
products, as well as at upgrading of these products.
The district attracts by its cultural and historic achievements. Over 200
historic monuments, including 150 burial hills, are located in its territory.
Vernacular arts as well as amateur creative activity are highly developed
here.
Henichesk district
This district is located in the outer southern-eastern part of Kherson
region, on the northern coast of the Azov Sea. It borders on Yakymivka district
of Zaporizhya region in the north, on Ivanivka and Novotroyitsk districts of
Kherson region in the north-west, on Dzhankoy and Lenino districts of the Autonomous
Republic of Crimea in the south. The district center - the town of Henichesk
was founded in 1784.
Sectors of agrarian and industrial directions represent the district's economics.
This district has advantageous conditions for growing grain, oil crops, vegetables,
melons and watermelons. Significant attention is paid to development of cattle-breeding,
pig-breeding, sheep-breeding and poultry husbandry.
Processing industry is one of the leading sectors of the district's economy.
Considerable number of enterprises uses local raw materials. Bringing production
to a new commercial level, increasing its quality and marketability are performed
continually. The joint-stock company "Henichesk khlibozavod" (Bread-baking
plant of Henichesk) is a principal enterprise in the region that provides
our inhabitants with bread and bakery products. It outputs more than 35 kinds
of production.
The Society "Khersones" and the Cannery reational zones of the
Azov Sea, curative muds and leach of the Syvash, as well as thermal waters
of Arabatska Strilka. Nowadays more than one hundred resorts and health improving
establishments, many of them are children's health-improving camps, function
in the district.
Azov-Syvaskyi National Nature Park, total area of which together with the
water area of the reserve fund constitutes 29 thousand hectares, excite great
interest of the district's visitors. Its basic part is located in the islands
of Biryuchyi and Kuyuk-Tuk.
A ramified network of trading and non-manufacturing business was created in
the district, which allows satisfying requirements of the population and guests
of the district completely
Hola Prystan district
Hola Prystan district is located in the outer southern-western part
of Kherson region. It is washed by the Black Sea waters in the south, by Dnieper-Bug
Liman and the Dnieper in the west and north, endless steppes extend to the east.
The largest in Ukraine Chornomorskyi Biosphere Reserve, which since 1984
was included in the world system of biosphere reserves by UNESCO, and where
you can acquaint with primeval nature of Kherson region, is located in the
district's territory. Projects of the Research Institute for Growing Vegetables,
Melons and Watermelons in Southern Regions are popular in other regions of
Ukraine and abroad.
Luxurious Dnieper reedy areas, calm river flood plains create favorable conditions
for having rest. Tens of thousands people rest and gather strength here annually.
A ramified network of health-improving and rest establishments - holiday hotels
and rest camps, located on the Black Sea coast, favorthis.
The sanatorium "Hopry", which is celebrated for its sulphide-silt
mud and chloride-sodium leach, is located in the picturesque park of the town
of Hola Prystan on the bank of curative Lake Solyane.
The Hola Prystan district station of green tourism "Hopry" promulgates
a village green tourism. The farm "Tchayka" ("Seagull")
on the bank of the Dnieper tributary seems to be the first robin in this sphere,
it welcomes its visitors cheerfully.
Every person, who was in the district as least once, would never forget its
citizens' hearty welcome, their kindly attitude and cheerful mood. All this
creates advantageous conditions not only for organization of good rest and
health improving but also for establishment of business cooperation.
Hornostayivka district
It is located in the central-northern part of Kherson region. It is
bounded by Velyka Lepetykha district in the north, by Nyzhni Sirohozy and Kakhovka
districts in the east and south, by Beryslav district in the west along the
Dnieper riverbed.
The district acquired its name form the migrants from Hornostayivka village
in Kyiv region. The name Hornostayivka derives from the world "hornostay"
(ermine) - an animal, which ranged in Polissya. The district center was founded
in the XVIII century. Remains of the settlement, referring to the later Bronze
Age preserved here, as well as a site of the Scythian-Sarma-tians' times, stone
idols of nomads of the XI - XIII centuries were found in the district. Near
the village of Kayiry a Mesolithic encampment, a Neolithic tomb and a burial
ground, two settlements and a tomb of the later Bronze Age, a Scythian-Sarmatians'
site, a burial ground of the IX - XI centuries were discovered.
From the earliest times, the population of this territory was occupied in
agriculture, cattle-breeding, fishing in the Dnieper, mining of limestone
in stone-pits. Two large fairs, where people sold wheat and animals were held
here annually in the XIX century. Nowadays an agribusiness defines the economic
structure of the district. The district has southern black soils with some
varieties and meadow black soils at the steppe lowlands. Natural conditions
are advantageous for growing of grain, oil and vegetable crops, production
of milk, meat andeggs.
Ivanivka district
It is located in the outer east of Kherson region. It borders on Nyzhni
Sirohozy district in the north, on Novoveselivka district of Zaporizhya region
in the east, on Henichesk and Novotro-yitsk districts in the south and west.
Migrants from Velyka and Mala Lepetykha, Bilozerka, Shulhivka and other villages,
founded the district center in the twenties of the XIX century. They were
attracted by endless fertilelands.
It is those lands, which constitute the basic resource of the district. It
has advantageous conditions for development of plant-growing and animal husbandry.
The dominant crops are winter wheat, spring barley, peas, sunflower and castor-oil
plant. Vegetable crops, as well as melons and watermelons are grown here.
There are favorable conditions for development of cattle-breeding, pig-breeding,
sheep-breeding and poultry-farming.
Irrigation creates promising possibilities for development of agricultural
cattle-breeding. An irrigating main of the Kakhovka Irrigation System, which
supplies the fields with the Dnieper water, passes across the south of the
district. The district has enough conditions for processing industry. It is
represented by a creamery and a food flavoring factory, located in Ivanivka,
output of which is in great demand. Attention will be paid to renovation of
cotton growing in the future.
Kalanchak district
This district is located in the southern part of Kherson region. It
is bounded by Tsyurupynsk and Chaplynka districts in the north and east, by
Skadovsk district in the west, by Krasnoperekopsk district of the Autonomous
Republic of Crimea in the south. It is washed by waters of Dzharylhach and Karkinitska
Bays of the Black Sea in the south.
Local natural conditions favor organization of people's summer holidays.
The Black Sea beaches with curative air, infused on bromine and iodine ions,
extend here for 35 km. Cheap, wholefood vegetables and fruit and almost 300
sunny days a year complement this list of advantages perfectly.
Visitors can be interested by local ancient monuments. Near Kalanchak archeologists
found ornamented utensils, a unique church building with three anthropomorphous
stelae. The ScyWnaft, Saxvaatiaxv and other nomad's burial grounds are in
the district's territory of the XI -XIII centuries were discovered. Besides,
the grave of Sofia Faltz-Fein, mother of the founder of "Askania-Nova"
reserve, is located in the village of Khorly aswell.
Immigrants from the northern Ukrainian provinces began to people the territory
of the district at the end of the XVIII century. They brought their culture
and skills of farming and cattle-breeding. At the beginning of the last century
several enterprises, which processed agricultural stock, had already functioned
in the district.
The agricultural development became more effective after the Dnieper water
was supplied to this district by channels, which provided high yields growing.
Rice is one of the basic crops. Besides, wheat, sunflower, corn, vegetables,
melons, watermelons and grapes are grown here. Meet-dairy cattle-breeding
and sheep farming predominate in the animal husbandry sector.
Modern industrial infrastructure of the district is represented by such joint-stock
companies as "Kalanchatskyi Combinat Khliboproductiv" ("Kalanchak
Cereal Integrated Works"), "Kalanchatskyi Maslozavod" ("Kalanchak
Creamery"), "Kalanchatska Kharchosmakova Fabryka" ("Kalanchak
Food Flavoring Factory"), "Kalanchatskyi Konservnyi Zavod"
("Kalan-chak Cannery"), products of which are in great demand. The
Joint-Stock Company "Chervonyi Chaban" is an acknowledged national
leader in the sphere of sheep breeding.
Kakhovka district
It is located in the center of Kherson region. The district borders
on Hornostayivka district in the north, on Nyzhni Sirohozy and Novotroyitsk
districts in the east, on Chaplynka district in the south, on Tsyurupynsk district
and Nova Kakhovka town in the west, on Beryslav district along the Dnieper riverbed
in the west-north.
From the territory of the district blue fertility routings take their rise
- the Pivnichno-Krymskyi (Nothern-Crimean) canal with the length of 400 km,
which supplies the Dnieper water to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as
well as the Kakhovka irrigation main with the length of 130 km, which carries
water for irrigation of about 400 thousand hectares in Kherson and Zaporizhya
regions. They constitute the largest irrigation system in Europe. It gives
an opportunity to grow high yields of agricultural crops continually.
More than one hundred enterprises function in territory of the district, the
including 10 providing services for agricultural sector, the leading one is
the Ukrainian-Swedish enterprise "Chumak", which not only processes
agricultural raw materials, but also contributes to introduction of the newest
technologies in vegetable growing. The OJSC "Kakhovka Factory" and
the Integrated Food Plant, accountable to the District Customers' Union, act
here aswell.
Nyzhni Sirohozy district
It is located in the northern-eastern part of Kherson region. It borders
on Verkhniy Rohachyk district in the north, on Vesele district of Zaporizhya
region in the east, on Ivanivka and Novotroyitsk districts in the south, on
Kakhovka, Hornostayivka and Velyka Lepetykha districts of Kherson region in
thewest.
The district is situated at the intersection of tracks, made by different vagrant
tribes. The Scythian burial hills Ohuz, Small Ohuz and Diyiv, which are historic
monuments, are declarative of those days. A lot of elaborated golden jewels,
which later were exhibited in many museums of the world, were found here. The
Cossacks and Tchumaks' ways crossed here. Just this fact conditioned appearance
of many modern inhabited localities. Nowadays they are protected and used for
renovation of historic memory.
The basic rich of the district is its land. Winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower
give heavy crops here. The processing industry dominates in the district.
The Nyzhni Sirohozy Food Flavoring Factory became well-known. Its products
are in demand not only in Ukraine, but also abroad, particularly in Russia.
Grain farming, improvement of its structure, development of drip irrigation
will have a priority importance in perspective. The Sirohozy Factory of Dried
Milk and Casein will function more actively.
The whole production, economic and human potential is able to make the district
attractive for domestic and foreign investors. It has conditions both for
educational activity and goodrest.
Novovorontsovka district
It is located in the outer northern right-bank part of Kherson region.
It borders on Apostolivka district of Dnipropetrovsk region in the north, on
Verkhniy Rohachyk and Velyka Lepetykha districts in the east along the Dnieper
riverbed, on Beryslav and Velykooleksandrivka districts in the south and on
Vysokopillya district in thewest.
Remains of the Scythian settlements, which were discovered near Novovorontsovka,
are declarative of the fact that this district was peopled many years ago. The
settlements of the VIII - IX centuries were found near the village of Dudchany
as well. The territory of the district was a favorite place for the Cossacks'
wintercamps.
The district is located in the steppe zone. It has black soils. In the earth's
bosom deposits of clay, limestone, crushed-stone, phosphate rock were detected
here. The production is mostly agricultural. Winter wheat, sunflower, corn,
castor-oil plant give good crops in the district. The animal husbandry is represented
by meat-dairy cattle-breeding, pig breeding, sheep breeding and poultry farming.
Novotroyitsk district
The district is located in the eastern-southern part of Kherson region.
It is bounded by Nyzhni Sirohozy and Ivanivka districts in the north, by Henichesk
district in the east, by Kakhovka and Chaplynka districts in the west, by Krasnoperekopsk
district of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in thesouth.
The district is situated in the steppe zone. Soils here are chestnut together
with alkali ones, which are suitable for development of agricultural production.
In prolific years the district gathers as much grain as Baltic countries of
the former Soviet Union together. Winter wheat, sunflower, corn, vegetables,
melons and watermelons, castor-oil plant, perennial grasses give heavy crops
here. Gardening, viticulture, cattle-breeding, sheep breeding and cotton-growing
are promising directions of production.
The Joint-Stock Company "Novotroyitskyi Maslosyrzavod" ("Novotriyitsk
Creamery and Cheese-Making Factory") constitutes the basis of the processing
industry. Its output is well-known beyond Ukraine. Hard cheeses "Novotroyitskyi",
"Hollandskyi" ("Dutch") under the trade mark "Nova
Troya" ("New Troy") were awarded golden medals at the exhibitions.
Hard-working people live and work on the Novotroyitsk land. They are both
friendly with their guests and reliable in partnership.
Skadovsk district
Skadovsk district is located in the western-southern part of Kherson
region. It borders on Tsyu-rupynsk district in the north, Kalanchak district
in the east, Hola Prystan district in the west. In the south it is washed by
the Black Sea waters.
The district is associated with the center of recreational zone of Kherson
region. The district center itself is located on the Dzharylhach bay bank,
waters of which are advantageous for children's health improving. Tender sea
waves, the warm southern sun, wholefood products work marvels. In summer thousands
of children from all parts of Ukraine gather strength in the district.
A lot of attention is paid to development of the tourism and health-improving
complex in the district. Corresponding modern infrastructure is being created
with this aim. The Black Sea coast zone comprises 70 km here. Holiday hotels,
children's health-improving establishments, rest camps, tourist camps provide
treatment and rest for almost 100 thousand citizens ayear.
The agricultural sector is the leading one in the district. Grain fanning,
meat-dairy cattle-breeding are highly developed here. It allows satisfaction
of requirements for wholefood products. The Sea Port, which has a ferry to
the Turkish town Zonguldak, becomes an important transport center. It is a
significant means of enlarging contacts with the outerworld.
Tsyurupynsk district
It is located in the lower left-bank part of the Dnieper. Along the
Dnieper riverbed the district borders on Beryslav, Bilozerka districts and Kherson
in the north and west, on Kakhovka and Chaplynka districts in the east, on Skadovsk
in the south, on Hola Prystan district in the south-west.
Historically many settlements of different tribes were located here. The
Oleshkivska Sich was here in its time. Tsyurupynsk was founded in 1784 under
the name of Oleshky. Nowadays this is a town of district subordination.
The district is situated in the zone of the largest in Europe sandy arena,
called Ukrainian Kara Kum. Due to creative work of several generations picturesque
forests, which deeply refined nature of the lower Dnieper, appeared. Considerable
work is performed by the scientists of the Nyzhnyodniprovska (Lower Dnipro)
Research Station for planting forests in sandy areas and viticulture.
Grain farming, viticulture, growing of early-maturing vegetables, meat and
dairy cattle-breeding, sheep breeding are the basis of agricultural production.
These sectors represent industrial structure of the district.
The Tsyurupynsk Winery, products of which under the trade mark "Vyna
Oleshya" ("Wines of Oleshya") are in great demand in the domestic
market, becomes more and more well-known. The Creamery and Cheese-Making Plant
has wide opportunities for increasing its output.
In the nearest future the European Transport Corridor will go through the
district. This will open up the region for communication with outer world
and for larger quantity of visitors coming to numerous wonderful Dnieper tributaries,
planted forests, the tourist camp in the village of Krynky, where Ostap Vyshnya,
a classic of Ukrainian humor, liked togo.
Chaplynka district
The district is located in the central southern part of Kherson region.
It is bounded by Nyzhni Sirohozy district in the north, by Ivanivka and Henichesk
districts in the east, by Tsyurupynsk district in the west, by Kalanchak district
in the west-south, and is washed by waters of the salt Syvash Sea in the South.
The district is characterized by some peculiarities. The burial hills of
the Bronze Age are declarative of this. The antique works of the IV - II centuries
B. C. were found in the territory of the district.
Chaplynka was founded in 1794 on the road, by which the Ukrainian Tchumaks
(ox-cart drivers) went to the Crimea to buy salt. It was established by 25
families of villagers, deported by the Czar's government to the Tavria steppes
because of their participation in the well known Turbayivske rebellion in
1789 - 1793 in Poltava region.
Nowadays the district deals with agriculture chiefly. Stable yields are provided
by irrigation, which is supplied by a ramified network of the Kakhovka Irrigation
System. Plant-growing and cattle-breeding sectors constitute an economic basis
of the district.
The Ivanov Research Institute for Cattle-Breeding in Steppe Regions of Ukraine,
located in the district's territory, favors development of its economy. Here
new breeds of sheep, pigs and cattle are approved.
The largest in Europe biosphere reserve "Askania-Nova" with its
Stipa and Festuca Steppe is located in the territory of the district. Here
over 5 thousand individuals of 110 classes of mammals and birds are kept in
the open-air cages and under semifree conditions; there is the largest in
the south of Ukraine dendrological garden here aswell.
The Joint-Stock Company "Chaplynskyi Maslosyrzavod" ("Chaplynka
Creamery and Cheese-Making Plant") is celebrated for its products. It
is included into five best enterprises of Ukraine; it was repeatedly given
high awards both in Ukraine and in the Russian Federation.
